BENEFITS OF FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS
Covid-19 has forced a massive remote work experience all over the world.
Microsoft Teams, Skype and Zoom calls have become the part and parcel of our daily communication. In fact, we are seeing Zoom’s profits skyrocket more than average thanks to the coronavirus crisis.
It is no surprise. Virtual meeting is probably the only viable option during the lockdown crisis. We needed to change and adapt to new ways to continue with life even in harsh circumstances.
But are virtual meetings worth all the hype? Will virtual meetings replace face-to-face meetings forever?
Here we will discuss the benefits of face-to-face meetings and why they are still crucial, even in today’s digital communication age.
Helps Build Strong Client Relationships
Research has found that 97% respondents favoured face-to-face as their preferred form of communication. This suggests that face-to-face communication is the most favorable among us!
Meeting clients in person shows that your clients are important to your time and business. It helps to understand the value that both parties bring to the table.
Showing that you value your clients is crucial in business success. Face to face meetings is where you can appear persuasive and memorable – both of which are important to build strong client relationships.
However, we barely see this in virtual meetings. It is difficult to appear credible, effective and persuasive when meetings are conducted at home, from our own beds.
Fosters Better Trust in Business.
Did you know that brands that create lasting emotional bonds are the likeliest to stay in power?
In-person meetings with clients will boost emotional relationships and help build trust.
The way we communicate via active listening, facial expressions and gestures with clients will decide whether the clients want to work with you. At the start of a client relationship, sowing seeds of trust from nothing is extremely crucial.
Humans are social animals. When we could no longer interact interpersonally, the brain and communication can suffer. We eventually need face to face interaction to foster bonding, collaborate, and create opportunities together.
However, such emotional communication is lost through virtual meetings. It is not easy to pinpoint body gestures. Sometimes, listening to your clients can be difficult due to poor Wi-fi connection and technical app difficulties. This makes it more important than ever to interact and meet your clients face to face.
Better Focus, More Productive.
Nobody can deny how cool virtual meetings are. Virtual meetings are convenient and cheaper.
However, virtual meetings may not be as conducive. During virtual meetings, you would often be tempted to use your phone and scroll through social media. The chances of getting caught doing during a Zoom call is zero – which makes it all more tempting. We have all done it at some point.
During face-to-face meetings, it’s not easy to be distracted with your phone. Using the phone to scroll social media or playing games during a face-to-face meeting is very rude and disrespectful to everyone else in the room. Therefore, there is no room to be tempted to use the phone or do other tasks during the meeting. This will only make you focus and brainstorm better in a meeting.
Clearer Communication in Face-to-Face Meetings.
Let’s also not forget that it is easier to communicate your message and goals during in-person meetings. This is because it is much easier to understand the message and reactions from your colleagues.
Appreciating the emotions or body language involved is never an issue. This allows us to be confident and persuasive when discussing our ideas and objectives to clients and colleagues.
However, this is not the same for virtual meetings. Communication with colleagues and clients may not be productive due to the fear of misinterpretation. Misinterpretation would then cause miscommunication that will affect collaborative and team-building spirit as a whole.
Face-to-face meetings may not be the norm today, but we cannot ignore the benefits for business. Uncertain times call for better communication and smoother collaboration.
